Austin Convention Center selected as Reader’s Choice Award winner for 11th time

November 9, 2020

AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Convention Center was honored as a 2020 Reader’s Choice Award winner by ConventionSouth, a national multimedia resource for planning events in the South.

This is the 11th time, since 2001 that the Austin Convention Center has received the award that honors visitor bureaus (CVBs), meeting facilities and hotels located across the South.

“ConventionSouth readers and fans have voted to decide the best meeting sites in the South, and it is no surprise to us that Austin Convention Center has been selected to receive our annual Readers’ Choice Award,” said ConventionSouth Associate Publisher Ashleigh Osborne. “The value in receiving this prestigious recognition is that it comes from the United States’ top meeting professionals who hold events in the South. These planners demand the highest level of customer service and quality facilities, and they have contributed in determining that Austin Convention Center indeed displays the commitment to professionalism, creativity and service that they require.”

According to ConventionSouth, meeting professionals nominate the meeting sites they believe provide exemplary service for group events, throughout the year. The nominated sites are then compiled onto an online ballot where meeting professionals and fans are asked to vote for the best of the best. ConventionSouth stated that 8,000 voters participated in the selection process and the Austin Convention Center will be featured as an award recipient in the December 2020 Awards Issue.

“The staff takes great pride in customer service and making sure guests receive the full Austin experience in the city, in the building and with convention team members,” said Paul Barnes, Austin Convention Center Department Deputy Director – Chief Operations Officer. “The facility is fortunate to manage 90% of its services, such as housekeeping, security, IT and exhibitor services, all provided by in-house trained staff.”

Located in the heart of downtown the Austin Convention Center is a LEED® Gold-certified for energy use and efficiency and is one of the country’s most technologically advanced convention centers. The four-level facility spans six city blocks with 370,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space. There are 11,000-plus hotel rooms within a two-mile radius of the facility, with two adjacent hotels connected by walkways, the 800-room Hilton Austin and The Fairmont Austin, North America’s largest Fairmont property with 1,048 rooms.

Celebrating almost 40 years as a leading meeting planning resource, ConventionSouth magazine is based in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and is distributed to more than 18,000 meeting professionals located across the country who book meetings held within the South, according to Osborne.
