About the Austin Convention Center Expansion and Redevelopment

Community & the Arts

Our team invests its time, money, and effort into everything Austin. Showcasing local art, sponsoring community events, donating school supplies and backpacks, tutoring, mentorship, and summer internships. Anything we can do to help, we are glad to do it. Austin is our home. We live here. We work here. We raise families here. So, at the end of the day, we see it as a must to engage with the community regularly, because if Austin is doing well that means we all are.

Community Engagement

Education

Throughout the year, our team participates in numerous programs and events to teach Austinites of all ages about the Austin Convention Center. We attend college career fairs and job fairs to introduce people to the great opportunities we have available. High school students and local citizens come to the events (AustinCorps Program and CityWorks Academy) we host for an in-depth class on the role we play in city government, which includes a full site tour of our venue.

More About CityWorks Academy

Summer Internship

Each year when the temperatures go up, we welcome a new crop of impressive young minds into the fold. Students from various Austin-area high schools work side by side with seasoned members of our team in every division. This program gives young adults six weeks of first-hand experience working collaboratively in a professional setting. And as a result, they also learn how our venue adds to the overall growth and prosperity of the city.

Tutoring & Mentoring

The City of Austin’s Mentor and Tutor Volunteer Program is an excellent opportunity for us to provide guidance for local students. Our team has the opportunity to make a difference in helping students every year. We help students with class assignments, providing guidance and support throughout their school year. It is just a little reminder to the kids that they have people in their corner wanting them to succeed. Another push for our students to continue in the right direction.

Partnerships

We pride ourselves on being an active participant in the community, promoting positive activities for Austinities to enjoy. It is important to us to sustain staple cultural events synonymous with the city. Whether it is through funding or providing space, our team is passionate about doing what they can for our local grassroots organizations and events. This is why we proudly partner with the Trail of Lights, the Pecan Street Festival, Viva La Vida Fest - Mexic-Arte Museum, and Austin City Limits, to name a few.

Donations

The giving spirit is eternal with our team. For over a decade, we have participated in the City of Austin’s Combined Charities Campaign, an annual program for our team to contribute financially to organizations serving important causes. When a new school year is around the corner, staff members have the opportunity to contribute towards the City of Austin’s Build A Backpack and School Supplies Drive. This donation drive gives Austin-area students, who are unable to afford the basics for school, everything they need to start the year off right.

Visual Arts Collection

Our venue doubles as an art museum. We are excited for any chance to showcase local talent. Paintings, photographs, installations, we love it all. Supporting the creative arts in our city is incredibly important to us. With help from the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places, it allows us to play a part in sustaining what has always made Austin special.
