About the Austin Convention Center Expansion and Redevelopment

Sustainability

We are focused on positively impacting our community in all we do, including how we interact with and affect our environment. Over the years, our team has put in place initiatives and practices to reduce the Austin Convention Center’s impact on the environment. This work has enhanced our efforts in energy conservation and waste diversion, but it does not stop there. Each day we look for new opportunities to perfect our processes to become better residents of the Earth.

Sustainable Results

Our venue is powered by 100 percent renewable energy from Austin Energy’s Green Choice Program. Not to mention, 50 percent of all waste generated is diverted from landfills through our extensive recycling, reuse, and composting program.

Leave the Car at Home

Local visitors can make it to the Convention Center with MetroRail and MetroBus, both stop right next to the venue. Explore the surrounding downtown without any restraints, using one of the many transportation options available, whether it is a taxi, scooter, bike, or car-sharing service, and be back in time for your next meeting.

Clean Air, Clean Environment

We clean our smoke-free facility with Green Seal certified products to limit harmful volatile organic compound (VOC) particulates in the air. Our Integrated Pest Management system uses baits and traps and limits the use of chemicals to keep everything in tip-top shape. The City of Austin currently bans the use of Chlorpyrifos and Neonicotinoids at all facilities.

Continually Educating on Sustainability

Our compliance officers educate management and staff about sustainable techniques. These teachings then not only become a regular part of facility operations but a habit of everyday life for our team at home.
