The Austin Convention Center Department (ACCD) is celebrating a milestone in the redevelopment and expansion project, known as UnconventionalATX, having officially entered the first phase of construction.

The Austin Convention Center is marking a new chapter in the City’s evolution with a special commemorative event on April 17, 2025. The event and beam signing celebrated the launch of UnconventionalATX, a visionary convention center redevelopment project designed to create a walkable, sustainable, and globally competitive convention space in the heart of downtown Austin.

The current Austin Convention Center will host its final events in March 2025 before closing its doors for a long-awaited redevelopment and expansion. The month will mark the end of an era for the beloved venue, which has been a cornerstone of Austin’s cultural and professional gatherings. As the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festival and The Aesthetic MEET 2025 take place, they will host events in the space that has welcomed countless attendees over the years.-
