ABOUT
Our team works hard to have everything hitting on all cylinders, so the Austin Convention Center is a high-functioning, contributing member of the community. Day in and day out, we strive to give citizens and visitors the best in customer service.
Who We Are
The Austin Convention Center is redefining what’s possible for events, meetings, and festivals. Reopening in 2028—just in time for the 2029 Spring Festivals—our all-new facility will be the world’s first Zero Carbon Certified convention center, setting a bold standard for innovation, sustainability, and Austin pride. With 620,000 square feet of rentable space, including 70,000 square feet outdoors, the center is designed to host everything from intimate gatherings to major conventions. Inside, guests will experience flexible exhibit halls, high-tech meeting rooms, elegant ballrooms, and dramatic pre-function spaces with mass timber ceilings—all built to inspire.
We’re not just building a venue—we’re building the future of events.
History
In 1992, Austin responded to a growing need for event infrastructure by opening the Neal Kocurek Memorial Austin Convention Center—filling a vital gap for a city quickly rising as a major destination. Designed to host hundreds of thousands of guests annually, the center became a cornerstone of Austin’s tourism and economic development. After decades of service, the facility officially closed in 2025 to undergo a full-scale redevelopment, paving the way for a bold new future in meetings and events.
Sustainability
We are a USGBC LEED® Gold EB certified venue running on 100 percent renewable energy from Austin Energy’s Green Choice Program. Our team has also diverted 50 percent of all waste generated from landfills with an extensive recycling, reuse, composting program.
Mission Statement
The central mission of the Austin Convention Center Department is to provide outstanding event facilities and services to our customers, so they can have a positive experience.
