Skyway Connecting 3rd and 4th Levels Officially Opens at Austin Convention Center

Austin, TexasJust in time for the jam-packed spring schedule, the new Austin Convention Center Skyway officially opened, connecting Level 3 in the south side of the facility to Level 4 in the north side. The overhead walkway connects the Level 3 meeting rooms to the escalator bank in the Solar Atrium, near Trinity and Fourth Street.

The open air walkway makes movement between the two levels significantly easier and greatly improves traffic flow between the two sides of the convention center.

The skyway project had been endorsed by the Center’s clients and potential clients, as well as the Austin Convention & Visitors Board’s Customer Advisory Board. It officially opened just prior to South by Southwest, which saw thousands in the facility daily for their three events scheduled March 11-20.

The 41 events held during the three-month period between March and June, brought nearly 100,000 attendees through the facility, and many enjoyed the ease of walking along the Skyway. In addition to SXSW, the spring conventions included: NACHA-The Electronic Payments Association, Texas Library Association, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, American Pain Society, National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development, and Junior Volleyball Association. There were also four conferences, three consumer shows, and three trade shows.

Over 7 million people have attended 3,000+ events, including over 700 conventions, at the award-winning Austin Convention Center since it opened in 1992.  A calendar of events for both the Austin Convention Center and the Palmer Events Center, can be accessed at www.austinconventioncenter.com.
