SXSW 2011, Plus 12 Other Events, Create Active and Diversified March Madness at the Austin Convention Center
Three conventions, three conferences, two consumer shows, a trade show, three meetings and the Texas Rollergirls round out the March schedule at the Convention Center.
March, 2011. Austin, Texas – Austinites know that SXSW comes every March to the city and the Austin Convention Center, but 12 other events are also scheduled this month.
SXSW 2011 (www.sxsw.org), which includes three separate events -- SXSW Interactive Festival, SXSW Film Conference and Festival, and SXSW Music and Media Conference, dominates the middle of the month at the Austin Convention Center, March 11-20. The event is in the facility for 16 days, moving in beginning March 6 and moving out March 21. The SXSW Conferences and Festivals offer the unique coming together of original music, independent films and emerging technologies. Year after year, the event proves to be a launching pad for new creative content.
The SXSW Interactive Festival, March 11-15, brings together the world’s most creative web developers, designers, bloggers, wireless innovators, content producers, programmers, widget inventors and new Media entrepreneurs. The SXSW Film Conference and Festival, March 11-19, explores all aspects of the art and business of independent filmmaking. In its 25th year, the SXSW Music and Media Conference, scheduled March 16-20, is the music festival that has become a staple event in the music industry calendar. At night, SXSW showcases hundreds of musical acts from around the world on over 80 stages in downtown Austin. By day, the Austin Convention Center comes alive with conference registrants doing business in the Trade Show and partaking of a full agenda of informative panel discussions featuring speakers of international stature.
The two other March conventions include: Texas Association of School Business Officials (www.tasbo.org), March 2-4, and NACHA – The Electronic Payments Association (http://payments.nacha.org) which begins moving in on March 31. NACHA represents new business to the Center. Another new client is the NBM Show (www.thenbmshow.com), an annual trade show with an attendance of 4,500 scheduled March 23-26.
Conferences include South West Transit Association Conference & Expo (www.swta.org), Feb. 28-March 1; National Association of Insurance Commissioners National Meeting (www.naic.org), March 26-29; and Humana West Region Training Meeting (www.humana.org), March 28-April 1. The two returning consumer shows scheduled the first weekend of the month: Austin Spring Home & Garden Show (www.showtechnology.com), March 4-6 and the Spring Austin Bridal Expo (www.AustinBridalExpo.com), March 6. Meetings include the Texas Federation of Republican Women’s Legislative Day, March 3; Buck Institute for Education’s National Faculty Summit, March 24; and Texas Virtual Academy March Testing. The Texas Rollergirls’ match is March 27.
