Over 34,000 Attending October Events at Austin Convention Center For 3 Conventions, 6 Conferences, 2 Trade Shows,
LIVESTRONG Village, RollerGirls Championship, ELSES Exam

Palmer Events Center events expected to attract over 31,000 to 6 consumer shows, 4 trade shows, 3 conferences, Homecoming Dance and 2 private events.

October, 2008.  Austin, Texas. -  Three conventions, six conferences, two trade shows, Lance Armstrong Foundation’s LIVESTRONG Village, Rollergirls Championship and engineering exams will draw over 33,000 to the Austin Convention Center this month.  Business has been steady all year at the Austin Convention Center with 179 events, including 47 conventions, occurring in the fiscal year ending September 30.

October begins with the annual Armstrong McCall’s Annual Hair, Skin and Nail Show attracting 15,000 to its convention scheduled Oct. 5-6.  As this event moves out, a new client, the American Hospital Association/American Society for Healthcare Human Resource Administration, moves in for its convention scheduled October 11-14.  The Associated General Contractors of Texas returns to the Center for their annual Trade & Equipment Show, October 14-15.  Beginning Oct. 27, IEEE – Computer Society begins moving into the convention center for their mid-November event.

Six conferences for the month include:  Keller-Williams’ KW Mastermind, Oct. 8; JP Morgan Chase/Bank One’s 2008 Roadshow Conference, Oct. 9; Catholic Diocese of Austin’s Ministry Conference, Oct. 18; Differential Diagnosis of Oral Lesions, Oct. 25; Institute of Real Estate Management Forum, Oct. 28; and DELL’s  2008 FEF Finance Education Forum, Oct. 31.

Lance Armstrong Foundation returns Oct. 24-25 to the convention center for the LAF LIVESTRONG Village, which is expected to attract 8,000 people.  Two trade shows scheduled this month are InnoTech Austin, Oct. 16, and the Austin Board of Realtors’ Realty Roundup, Oct. 22.  The ELSES engineering exam is scheduled Oct. 24-25.  The TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls return to the Austin Convention Center to compete in the 2008 Calvello Cup Championship, Oct. 11.

The Palmer Events Center will be equally busy with 15 events attracting over 31,000 area residents.  Six consumer shows include Fall International Gem and Jewelry Show, Oct. 3-5; Mommy and Me Children’s Consignment Sale, Oct. 4-5; AltCar Expo, Oct. 17-18; City-Wide Garage Sale, Oct. 18-19; Austin Gem and Mineral Show, Oct. 24-26; and Spa Show, Oct. 24-26. Trade shows include the Austin Apartment Association’s Annual Trade Show, Oct. 16; Austin American Statesman Career Expo, Oct. 22; and Ben E. Keith Foods’ Expo, Oct. 29.  Other events include Silicon Lab Sales Meetings, Oct. 7-9; Westwood High School Homecoming Dance, Oct. 11; and SANS Institute seminar, Oct. 22-23.

Over 6.2 million people have attended over 2,600 events, including 603 conventions, at the Austin Convention Center since it opened in 1992.  The Palmer Events Center, which opened in 2002, is the popular site for over 100 different events each year.  Events at both facilities, and their websites, can be accessed at www.austinconventioncenter.com.
