November, 2008. Austin, Texas. - When the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) SC08 Conference convenes Nov. 15-21 in the Austin Convention Center for the first time, the event will feature six days of technical sessions, three days of the most extensive exhibition in the history of the conference, and a number of events marking the 20th anniversary of the premier international conference of high performance computing, networking, analysis and storage.
The IEEE SC08 Conference is the premier international conference on high performance computing (HPC), networking, storage and analysis. It attracts world scientists, researchers, software developers, network engineers, policy makers, corporate managers, CIOs and IT administrators from universities, industry and world governments.
Over 5,300 are expected to attend the convention which occupies the entire facility. Event move-in began on October 27, while staging for the IEEE SuperComputer convention started in mid-September. Technical staff from around the country converged onto one of the Austin Convention Center’s storage rooms to start the setup for the November event. Their goal was to install and establish the Wide Area Network (WAN) links that will bring in over 200 GB/Sec worth of bandwidth into the Center. With that much bandwidth, one could download the Library of Congress in 1.4 days! The Austin Convention Center currently has more bandwidth than most countries!
The conference will feature the latest scientific and technical innovations from around the world. Bringing together scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, programmers, system administrators and managers, SC08 will be the forum for demonstrating how these developments are driving new ideas, new discoveries and new industries. Michael Dell is one of five invited speakers to share their expertise in fields ranging from parallel programming to energy to medicine.
