Austin Convention Center May Calendar Full With 16 Events, Including  Four Conventions, Five Conferences, Lonestar Rollergirls, Proms, A Consumer Show and Trade Show

Palmer Events Center will bring over 17,000 to 11 events, including four consumer shows, two trade shows, and the Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration.

May, 2008.  Austin, Texas. -  Sixteen events are expected to bring an estimated 25,000 people to the Austin Convention Center this month.  The calendar includes four conventions, five conferences, two sporting events, two proms, a consumer show and a trade show.

Three of the four conventions represent returning business for the Austin Convention Center:  Texas Commission of Environmental Quality Trade Fair & Conference, April 29-May 1; Junior Volleyball Association of Austin’s Lone Star Junior Regional Championships, May 3-4; and National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development’s Annual Conference, May 26-28.  New to the Austin Convention Center is the API Fund for Payroll Education, which brings its Annual Congress, May 13-17.  Another new event for the Center is the American Public Transportation Association, which holds their Bus and Paratransit Conference and Trade Show on May 6. 

Five conferences are scheduled at the Convention Center, including:  EDA Tech Forum, May 7; Information Technology Service Management Forum USA’s 2008 itSMF USA, May 20; Ryma Technology Solutions’ 2008 Roadshow Series Integrated Product Management, May 20;  Global Border Security Conference & Expo, May 21-22; and a State Bar of Texas Bill of Rights Seminar, May 22-23.  The TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls play a match on May 6, and Austin Community College holds its 2008 Graduation Ceremony on May 8. Two high school proms are scheduled May 3 and May 10, with the Mary Ellen Mark Prom Project scheduled May 10.

The Palmer Events Center’s calendar in May will bring over 17,000 to 11 events.  Four consumer shows are scheduled at the PEC:  FamilyConnections’ Celebration of Families, May 3; 2008 Spa Show, May 16-18; Worldwide Poster’s Rhythm Hound, May 17-18; and The Warehouse Sale, May 28.  Two trade shows in May include the AISD Teacher Job Fair, May 10, and Goodwill Industries of Central Texas’ Community Career Expo, May 14. The Austin Symphony Orchestra’s Promenade Pops will perform the weekend before Memorial Day, May 23-24.  The last weekend of the month will feature the City of Austin’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration, May 30, and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy’s Swearing In Ceremony, May 31.

About six million people have attended over 2,500 events, including 586 conventions, at the Austin Convention Center since it opened in 1992.  The Palmer Events Center, which opened in 2002, is the popular site for over 100 different events each year.
