
19 Events, Including Five Conventions, Three Conferences,
Two Consumer Shows, Five Sporting Events, A Political Rally
Will Bring Over 55,000 to Austin Convention Center in March
SXSW returns to the Convention Center for 10 days in March
Over 18,000 expected at Palmer Events Center for 11 events, including three consumer shows, two trade shows, and three food and beverage events.
March, 2008. Austin, Texas. - Austin is expecting over 300,000 visitors to head to our city in March, and over 55,000 of them will be attending one of the 19 events scheduled at the Austin Convention Center. The facility’s March calendar includes five conventions, two consumer shows, three conferences, five sporting events, and a political rally.
The convention that dominates the middle of the month is South by Southwest, March 7-16. The 22nd annual international convention actually includes three separate events: Interactive Festival March 7-11; Film Conference & Festival, March 7-15; and the Music Conference & Festival, March 12-16.
Other conventions this month include the Texas Association of Business Officials, March 3-7; Association of Energy Engineers, March 18-21; Association of Texas Professional Educators, March 27-29; and the National Guard Association of Texas, March 28-29.
In-between the five conventions are: Spring Texas Home & Garden Show, March 29-April 2; Austin Police Department’s Awards Ceremony, March 1; Hillary Clinton Rally, March 3; DELL Incorporated’s All Finance Meeting, March 5; Austin Bridal Events of Distinction, March 9; Success Starts Now Seminar, March 19; FunJet Vacations Products Launch, March 20; Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers Tour, March 26; Austin Fire Department Entrance Exam, March 30. Five sporting events include Austin Toros home basketball games scheduled March 1, 20, 21 and 30, and TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls on March 2.
A gala, three consumer shows, two trade shows and a conference help fill out the Palmer Events Center this month, beginning with the Helping Hand Home Society’s Gala, March 1, and the Blood Center of Central Texas’ Annual Donor Recognition Event, March 2. Two trade shows scheduled are the Austin American Statesman’s Career Expo, March 4, and Skillpoint Alliance’s College & Career Fair for High School Students, March 6. Consumer shows include the Whole Bead Show, March 8-9; Mommy and Me Children’s Consignment Sale, March 14-16; and a City-Wide Garage Sale, March 15-16. The latter part of the month features the H H Aga Khan Regional Council’s Khushiali Celebration, March 22, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Ebony Fashion Fair, March 27, and a Texas Department of Information Resources conference, March 31-April 4.
