Austin Convention Center’s January Calendar Features 19 Events,
Including Four Conventions, Two Consumer Shows, Five Conferences,
Trade Show, Six Austin Toros Basketball Games

2008 Starts With Nine Conventions in January, February

Palmer Events Center will bring about 20,000 to seven events, including five consumer shows in four weekends, plus Taste of Austin.

January, 2008.  Austin, Texas. -  This year begins with four conventions scheduled in January at the Austin Convention Center and nine in the first two months.  About 21,000 are expected for the January conventions which include:  American Astronomical Society, Jan. 7-11; Texas Association of School Administrators’ Midwinter Conference, Jan. 28-30; and Government Technology Conference’s 2008 GTC Southwest, Jan. 28-31.

Another 12,000 will attend February conventions which include Texas Computer Education Association, Feb. 6-8; DELL Americas FY ’09 FRS, Feb. 10-14; NTPD Annual Dealers Conference, Feb. 17-22; Texas Middle School Association, Feb. 21-23; and Applied Power Electronics Conference, Feb. 24-28. Thirty-three percent of the conventions in January and February represent new business to the Center.

Two consumer shows are scheduled in January at the Austin Convention Center:  Show Technology’s Austin Spring Home & Garden Show, Jan. 11-13; and Town Lake Productions’  Austin Boat Show, Jan. 17-20.  Conferences this month include: State Bar of Texas Seminar, Jan. 11; Seton Family of Hospitals’ Leadership Retreat, Jan. 11; Aramark Regional Meeting, Jan. 21-24; Angelou Economics’ 2008 Economic & Technology Forecast, Jan. 24.  KLBJ-Am Talk Fest is scheduled Jan. 26, while Texas Society of Association Executives holds its 2008 Southwest Showcase, Jan. 31. Six Austin Toros home basketball games are scheduled Jan. 4, 5, 10, 12, 23 and 24.

About 20,000 are expected to attend events at the Palmer Events Center in January, beginning with the Star of Texas Tattoo Arts Revival, Jan. 4-6.  Other consumer shows include:  Texas Weddings’ Bridal Extravaganza, Jan. 12-13; Sundown Promotions’ Custom Car & Hot Rod Show, Jan. 18-20; Austin Family News Magazine’s Annual Camp Fair, Jan. 26; and a City-Wide Garage Sale, Jan. 26-27.  Greater Austin Restaurant Association’s 2008 Taste of Austin is scheduled Jan. 30.
