February, 2008. Austin, Texas. - The shortest month of the year continues to be one of the busiest at the Austin Convention Center. Over 75,000 are expected to attend 15 events, including five conventions, three conferences, two consumer shows and five sporting events.
February begins with the Texas Computer Education Association’s 28th Annual Convention & Exposition, Feb. 4-8. The TCEA annual convention, which has been held at the Austin Convention Center since the facility opened, will attract 12,000 attendees. It is one of the largest educational technology conventions in the nation and the largest in Texas. DELL Americas FY ’09 FRS follows Feb. 10-14, bringing 2,200 to the facility, while 5,000 will attend the Texas Middle School Association’s Annual Convention, Feb. 21-23. Other conventions include: NTP Distribution Annual Dealers Conference, Feb. 17-22; and Applied Power Electronics Conference, Feb. 24-28.
Conferences scheduled this month include: University of Texas at Austin – School of Law – Continuing Legal Education’s Wind Energy Institute, Feb. 19-20; and Armstrong McCall’s Spring Training, Feb. 17-19. Two consumer shows include the TRVA Austin RV Expo, Feb. 14-17; and the International Exhibitions’ Spring Texas Home & Garden Show, Feb. 29–March 2. Exhibit Hall 5 will host five sporting events this month. Four Austin Toros home basketball games are scheduled Feb. 1, 22, 23, and 29, while the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls return to the Center on Feb. 17.
The Palmer Events Center anticipates over 31,000 people will attend ten different events in February. Events are scheduled each weekend that will attract thousands to the PEC, beginning with Carnaval Brasileiro, Feb. 2. The following weekend features The Star of Texas Rodeo Austin Gala, Feb. 9, and a Public Dance on Feb. 10. The Austin Marathon Expo is scheduled Feb. 15-16, while the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival is Feb. 21-23. Other events scheduled at the PEC include: City of Austin’s Black History Program, Feb. 5; GMR*Works’ Sales Rally/Malibu Training, Feb. 6; American Contract Manufacturers Show, Feb. 12-13; and Sysco Food Show, Feb. 27.
