21 Events, Including Four Conventions, Eight Conferences,
Five Sporting Events, A Consumer Show and Trade Show
Will Bring Over 66,000 to Austin Convention Center in April

Palmer Events Center will bring over 27,000 to 12 events, including three consumer shows, two conventions, two conferences, two trade shows, and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity’s Austin Settings extravaganza.

April, 2008.  Austin, Texas. -  Twenty-one events are expected to bring an estimated 66,000 people to the Austin Convention Center this month.  The calendar includes four conventions, eight conferences, five sporting events, a consumer show and a trade show.

Three of the four conventions are visiting the Austin Convention Center for the first time:  National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo, April 2-5; Congress for the New Urbanism CNU XVI, April 3-6; and National Association of Educational Procurement Annual Meeting, April 7-9.  The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Environmental Trade Fair & Conference returns April 29-May 1. 

Sporting events scheduled at the Convention Center are:  NFL Celebrity Weekend, April 5; three Austin Toros home basketball games on April 2, 11, and 12: a Toros playoff game on April 19; and a TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls match on April 13.  Eight conferences include:  Contractors and Engineers Association Symposium, April 23; Iglesia Alcance de Restauracion, April 24-26; and MDE Latino Seminar, April 27.  The 2008 Austin Green Living & Home Products Expo is scheduled April 18–20, and the Speedy Stop Food Stores meeting and trade show occurs April 24-26. 

The Palmer Events Center’s calendar in April, which will bring nearly 28,000 to the facility, includes two conventions: Destination Imagination, April 5; and Natural Products Association’s Southwest Healthfest, April 11-13. Three consumer shows feature events returning to the PEC:  Heritage Society of Austin’s CIRCA Antiques Show, April 17-20; International Gem and Jewelry Show, April 18-20; and a City-Wide Garage Sale, April 26-27. Other events scheduled include:  Texas Department of Information Resources, March 31-April 4; City of Austin’s Getting Connected, April 10; Wonders & Worries’ 1,000 Kicks for Kids, April 12; Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity’s Austin Settings, April 16-17; Texas Round-Up Health & Fitness Expo, April 25; University of Phoenix Commencement, April 26;  and Associated General Contractors of Texas Meeting, April 30.

About 6 million people have attended over 2,500 events, including 586 conventions, at the Austin Convention Center since it opened in 1992.  Events and their websites, can be accessed from the facility’s website at www.austinconventioncenter.com.
